Photos...now with geotags! [Sep. 28th, 2006|09:38 pm]

[mood |busyflickry]

Flickr released a new feature about a month ago that allows users to geotag, add geographical data, their photos. So, after some hard work, research, and some help from Liz, I've geotagged nearly 800 photos! You can check them out on my flickr map! Note, that in the upper left corner there are map "pages." This is a bit odd (even some flickr folks admit so), but getting data for potentially thousands of photos and putting them on a map could be a bit costly, so this was the compromise.

Update [Aug. 20th, 2006|12:26 am]
[Tags|, , , , , , , , , , , ]

I haven't updated. Here's news and notes.

-I moved north to San Mateo. I live in a house with a couple other guys. My ex-roommate fined me for not cleaning the apartment (which I did). What I didn't realize was that by "clean" he meant "sterilize." He wasn't around when I moved out, so I left him an email stating that I'd be happy to reclean anything that wasn't up to par. Instead of taking advantage of the opportunity he elected to clean it himself, send an angry email about it, and fine me. Ridiculous.

-Snakes on a Plane is fantastic. Just a hilarious movie. Hooray for gratuitous nudity! Sam Jackson's m*therf*ckin snakes line comes at an unusual time, but it didn't prevent the audience from erupting!

-I bought a new bicycle. Woo!

-I failed to mention that I went to a comedy club a couple months ago and saw Pablo Francisco live. He's best known for his "Little Tortilla Boy" routine, which he didn't do. In all honesty, he wasn't that great. He's too off the wall, and too scared of silence. He just fills dead air with constant sound effects (his bread and butter).

-Evgeni Malkin is a superhero.

-Safeway has an imitation Dr. Pepper named "The Dr." That's almost as good as Eckerd's elusive "Dr. Riffic."

-I started my almost-famous Fantasy Football league. If you want in, let me know.

-Liz and I have signed up for Blockbuster Online. Their rates are identical to Netflix, but they also throw in a couple free rental coupons per month for their retail stores, making it a better value. We're on the cheapest plan: 3 DVDs per month, one at a time, plus 2 monthly coupons. It equates to approximately 1 a week or so, which is a nice pace. We're using it as an opportunity to see some classic movies that one or both of us haven't seen. Among the recent selections include The Godfather Trilogy and The Shawshank Redemption (amazing!)

-I may be able to file a patent for some things I did at work (neat!)

My birthday was two weeks ago...and Liz got me a DS Lite with Mario Brothers! Sweet!

We took a great trip to Sausalito (that's where the Golden Gate Bridge goes) and Liz made out with a bird.

July 4th weekend in Rahchacha [Jul. 11th, 2006|08:36 pm]
[Tags|, , ]
[mood |goodgood]

Since I had an extra-long July 4th weekend, I took the opportunity to see some friends in Rochester. Upon arriving in Buffalo's airport, Liz and I were heartily greeted by Eric, Steve, and Scott. Liz stayed behind with her family in Buffalo, so I got to chill out and catch up with everyone.

Among the highlights:
- Eric's mysteriously comfortable couch. I haven't slept that well in ages.
- DiBella's Old Fashioned Subs
- Watching Steve fall on his ass. Oh the memories.
- Eric's hilariously pink bathroom
- Puking in said bathroom
- Lunch with Frank
- Bocce with the Rhino
- Free Bowling at L&M
- "Thank You For Smoking" at the Dollar Theatre

And the lowlights
- Not seeing Coach
- Losing to Matt in Bowling and being forced buy him a "Soda" (Whatever that means).
- WoW. I hate WoW. I dislike flying 3000 miles only to be second-fiddle to someone's obligations to a video game. The hardest part of moving to the West Coast was leaving my friends behind, and I feel that many of them are foolishly squandering a very limited opportunity to hang out, make memories, and have fun by excessively playing a mindless game. In 10 years, when they look back, are their fondest memories going to be the times we hung out, or the NightElf Dance. Stupid.

Anywho, aside from the rant, I really had an awesome time! Thanks again guys! I hope I can come out again soon!

Does anyone here use a good RSS feed reader/aggregator? Something like Bloglines, but better? I'm looking for a good one, preferably web-based...

Scribbler: Yahoo Messenger Plugin [Jun. 20th, 2006|08:07 pm]
[Tags|, , ]
[mood |chipperYahoo-y]

Yahoo Messenger released 8.0 Beta yesterday. The newest functionality includes an open-plugin API. I co-authored one of the Plugins that come bundled with the product. It's a shared drawing application called Yahoo Scribbler. (Marketing renamed it).

It'd be really cool if you guys could check it out. You need to be able to chat with somebody, so after you download it from http://messenger.yahoo.com send me an IM at j0nnew. I'm online every weekday during west coast business hours.

Chris Daly, this was the "Super Secret" project I was working on.

Pictures, My Mom's retirement, and other random goodness [Jun. 18th, 2006|05:18 pm]

[mood |chipperphoto-y]

I went to Pittsburgh last weekend for my Mom's retirement party. For those of you I couldn't visit (which is really all of you), sorry, but I really had very little time. I arrived Saturday afternoon, and left Sunday evening.

The party was a lot of fun, and I took a lot of pictures, but chances are they won't be of any interest to...except maybe the plane made of money. Unfortunately, I had the responsibility of carrying the plane to the car which entailed walking through the bar populated with drunken patrons. Among the remarks:

Did you just graduate? Congratulations!
Hey, I'll give you a dollar for that plane!
Ooh, can I get a ride on that plane?
STFU!! (That was me, in my head)

It's always good to go back home. It's the only place where I get to see a statue of Franco Harris next to George Washington.

Some other random photos:
The piece of jewelry Liz bought

A tree fell in the pool at my apartment complex.

Cranberry Juice was on sale.
